Home prices in Tracy have increased 6.6 percent in the past month. The average price is now $177,000, according to the California Association of Realtors.

Matt Sary of Tracy High won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races at the San Joaquin Athletic Association swim championships at Lincoln High in Stockton.

C.R. “Red” Cathey, has been installed as new commander of Tracy Post 1537, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Minnie Boyd heads the VFW Auxiliary.

Retired U.S. Army Col. David Bruno, a veteran of World War II and Vietnam, has died at the age of 67. He had been exalted ruler of the Tracy Elks Lodge.

50 years ago — 1958

Loyal Crownover is coming to Tracy from Livermore to be the new manager of the J.C. Penney Co. store. He succeeds Jack Swan, manager for the past 17 years, who is retiring.

A new $50,000 office building has been completed at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Tracy Pumping Plant.

A new Senior Elementary school will be constructed north of Dr. Powers Park, if voters approve bonds for the elementary school district. (The school was built and is now named Monte Vista Middle School.)

75 years ago — 1933

An inspector from the University of California found academics at Tracy High School to be in good shape.

Construction has started on a new building for offices and a laboratory at the Holly Sugar mill north of Tracy.
