This week’s Remember When “mystery photo” shows a Tracyite
receiving a community honor in 1985. What was the honor, who was the
recipient and who made the presentation?
Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo” showed Tracy firemen battling the blaze that gutted The Diner restaurant on 11th Street in the morning hours of June 7, 1997.
The fire started in the flue above the stove in the restaurant’s kitchen. Once thought extinguished, the fire reignited and spread to the remainder of the building. Jim Lembesis was the owner of the business and the building. It took six years before the shell of the building was demolished and the present two-story structure constructed.
Among the Tracyites identifying The Diner as the scene of the fire were Dena Fagundes, Ilda Corron, Betty Naples, Marie Wilson, Elva Rotherham, Manuel Silveira and Liz Machado.
