Eight boys from Boy Scout Troop 515 have earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
The Troop 515 members who have become Eagle Scouts in the past nine months are David Peireira, Kevin Testo, Jake Palmer, Chris Brohard, Sean Green, Tim Langston, Eric Penrod and Zach Fiore.
The Eagle is the highest rank for Scouts, and only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts in the U.S. reach the rank, said troop coordinator Rechelle Pearlman.
“This is a huge accomplishment for the boys,” Pearlman said. “It should be a source of pride for their hometown.”
Two scouts from the same troop, Kimo Schreiner and Huey Barnett, are also on their way to getting their Eagles Scout badges.
Scouts must achieve their Eagle badges before their 18th birthday and must obtain 21 merit badges that reflect their commitment to service and duty to the community before they can become an Eagle Scout. The badges are earned through a series of projects that relate directly to the Boy Scouts.
Once all 21 merit badges are earned, the contender must create and manage a complicated project that benefits the community. “Being an Eagle Scout will definitely benefit them in the long run,” Pearlman said. “It makes them stand out in the crowd with a level of distinction in whatever field they choose to enter in their career.”
